Interview with Chris McKie @ Red Lion Coffee Co. SE14
“Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude” some quote I ripped off a site from a lad I’ve never heard of named Zig Ziglar. I reckon his middle name is Zag!
Anyways, why have I thrown up a random quote you say?
It’s all about attitude and I really enjoyed my quick chat with Chris McKie at the Red Lion Coffee Co. on Batavia Road in New Cross.
This is a coffee shop that doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a coffee shop and it’s mission is to…. sell quality coffee to the people of New Cross.
This is what Chris had to say….
Give us a little introduction to the Red Lion Coffee Co.
Chris: We’re a local independent cafe, community based that serves high quality coffee and food to match.
Why did you open in New Cross?
Chris: I used to rehearse at the Music Room London (I’m a drummer or should I say an ex-drummer) on New Cross Road so I knew the area.
What were you doing before you opened?
Chris: I was in the coffee game before. I was a co-founder of the independent chain Department of Coffee. You may have seen them around!
Does the Red Lion Coffee Co. have a mission and what is it?
Chris: We exist to make people’s lives better through coffee and if they want a nice place to sit we’re more than happy to have them.
Are you working with local distillers or brewers?
Chris: The coffees from hackney, beers from Bermondsey and the cakes come from Crofton park.
What are you doing that’s different?
Chris: Nothing. We’re doing everything well. Just good quality. You can’t say our coffee is better than anyone’s, it’s good and we just offer different vibes.
What is your favourite thing about New Cross?
Chris: The people, across all different walks of life, oh yeah and The Venue!
Describe New Cross in one word.
Chris: Indescribable, this is mainly due to the fact that they had multiple including: new, old, famous, vibrant and too good!
The Red Lion Coffee Co. is located on Batavia Road just behind the New Cross Inn and The Venue. It is open from 8am to 5pm most days.
